More info

Connect 4 (also known as 4 Online in some versions) is a two-player board game distributed by Hasbro, in which chips are inserted into a vertical board in order to align four consecutive ones of the same color. It was created in 1974 by Ned Strongin and Howard Wexler for the Milton Bradley Company.

Game rules

Conecta 4's goal is to align four tiles on a board made up of six rows and seven columns. Each player has 21 colored chips (usually red or yellow). In turn, players must enter a chip in the column they prefer (as long as it is not complete) and it will fall to the lowest position. The game is won by the first player to align four consecutive tiles of the same color horizontally, vertically or diagonally. If all the columns are full but nobody has made a valid row, there is a tie.

Connect 4 is an abstract strategy game where the opponents have perfect information. As a general rule, the first player has a better chance of winning if he enters the first chip in the middle column. If he does it in the adjoining ones he can force a tie, while if he puts it in the furthest from the center his rival can beat him more easily.

There is a table version and a travel version. Connect 4 is a variant of Captain's Mistress, a similar mechanics game but with wooden balls instead of plastic tiles.

Victory

The first player to manage to align 4 tiles horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins.

As in other strategy games, victory can be seen steps before, so it can be declared in advance if the rival, realizing that any movement made leads to the same result, accepts his defeat.
